It is scientifically proven that
in dog years, one-year-old dogs are fit and ready for mating. Therefore, as a pet
parent, it is crucial for me to plan the process. I was advised to not breed Waffle
after her first heat (periods). Getting her mated immediately after her first
heat increases complications during pregnancy, resulting in high chances for
stillborn puppies. We waited for the right time, maybe when she is about three-years old.

And the right time came last May
02, 2018. I was able to look for a male pomeranian which was a recommended by a
friend. I observed that Waffle showed signs of readiness during her heat cycle.
I bathed her right before she is due to come in season, and had her hair
trimmed away from the area directly around her vulva to present a clean and
clear entry. I paid P5000 pesos for the stud service including the
so-called “shooter” who assisted the canine couple while mating.
Her breeding has been completed, it took some time to find
out if it was a success. We will be able to tell if a litter is on the way a
lot sooner if you learn to spot the signs of pregnancy.
In the first few weeks, I did not notice changes. As her pregnancy
continues, a growing belly, an increase in her weight, an enlargement to her
nipples, a loss of hair around her nipples, and a hearty appetite were seen.
So, when she reached six weeks, I took
her to her vet. The veterinarian confirmed through x-ray and ultrasound that
Waffle is expecting 2 puppies.
